About the Album

TIMOR..TIMOR..TIMOR TIMOR. In the eastern part of the island with the same name, namely East Timor, the land of sapodilla, land of anas, friendly and friendly, with rhythms and songs typical of the east showing the spirit and joy of a tribe that wants to become Indonesia in its own right and because of its traditional ethnicity and the same culture.

Music, songs, dances are a part or a novelty of the daily spiritual life of the East Timorese.

At the time of harvesting rice and corn, in managing the fields or in other activities and daily chores, songs always occupy a special place in the soul of the eastern Timor people.

Not infrequently we see East Timorese men and women from hill to hill, from field to field, from rice field to rice field engrossed in themselves and the songs that come out of their lips spontaneously are complaints and prayers.

In the musical work that we are presenting now, we will present several songs, all from East Timor, quite well known and some which are not known at all by other people outside East Timor.

However, we think that this work is not enough to provide an insight into the diverse cultural horizons of East Timor.

Should this work be a message for all the children of East Timor scattered throughout the world, and also for our brothers and sisters in other Indonesian provinces, from Sabang to Merauke is our sincere wish, and the best reward for services.

TIMOR..TIMOR..TIMOR TIMOR..

The series of sentences above are expressions written on the cassette cover by the East Timorese group Sae Folksong. The album released by Loro Sae Record contains 12 songs as listed in the tracklist above. Each song lyric is equipped with an Indonesian translation. One of the songs entitled in Indonesian is East Timor Pasti Jaya on Side B, song number 6, the lyrics are as follows:

TIMUR TIMUR PASTI JAYA/By work/Full of peace/In unity and unity/Indonesian Nation !/TIMOR TIMUR ER-DE SER GRANDE/Con trabalho/na pas e unidade/dentro da grande nacao/Indonesia !/TIMOR TIMUR PASTI JAYA!/ EAST TIMOR ER-DE SER GRANDE !

There is no information, when this recording was produced. However, we estimate that between 1976-1999, because at that time East Timor was still part of the Republic of Indonesia.

History

This album is now special because it is an authentic proof that East Timor was once the 27th Province of the Republic of Indonesia. The history of the day of integration of East Timor into the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) occurred on July 17, 1976. Then it became the youngest province in the Republic of Indonesia before finally being separated in 1999 and becoming its own country under the name Timor Leste since 2002.

Quoted from Britannica, Timor Leste is located in the eastern part of the island of Timor and is in the eastern part of the Lesser Sunda Islands which is now known as the Nusa Tenggara Islands. Dili which is the capital city is the largest city in East Timor.

The Portuguese first settled in Timor Leste in 1520, and the Spanish arrived in 1522. The Dutch controlled the western part of the island in 1613, and the British ruled the island in 1812–1815. The Dutch and the Portuguese fought for supremacy over Timor Leste. Portuguese sovereignty over the eastern part of the island was settled by treaties in 1860 and 1893, although it was not effective until 1914. Japanese troops occupied Timor Leste during World War II.

East Timor remained Portuguese until 1975, when one of the major political parties there, Fretilin (Frente Revolucionária do Timor Leste Independente (Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor), took control of much of the territory and in November declared its independence as a Democratic Republic. Timor Leste In early December, Indonesian troops invaded and occupied the area, and in 1976 Indonesia declared it an integral part of the country as the Province of East Timor.

Timor Leste’s Independence

In response to mounting international pressure, the Indonesian government under President BJ Habibie adopted a referendum there on 30 August 1999 to determine East Timor’s future. Nearly four-fifths of voters supported independence, and the Indonesian parliament overturned Indonesian control of the territory. East Timor was also returned to the status of independence and designated as a non-governing territory under the supervision of the United Nations.

In April 2002 Xanana Gusmão, leader of the National Council of Timorese Resistance (Conselho Nacional de Resistência Timorense; CNRT), one of the former opposition groups, was elected the first president of Timor Leste. Not long after, Timor-Leste achieved full status as a sovereign state. Prime Minister José Ramos-Horta, recipient of the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize was elected president in May 2007 and succeeded Gusmão. About the Album

TIMOR..TIMOR..TIMOR TIMUR.

TIMOR..TIMOR..TIMOR TIMUR..

TIMOR TIMUR PASTI JAYA/Dengan bekerja/Penuh damai/Dalam persatuan dan kesatuan/Bangsa Indonesia !/TIMOR TIMUR ER-DE SER GRANDE/Con trabalho/na pas e unidade/dentro da grande nacao/Indonesia !/TIMOR TIMUR PASTI JAYA!/TIMOR TIMUR ER-DE SER GRANDE !

(Sumber: https://tirto.id)
