Biography
Benyamin Sueb is a legendary Gambang Kromong musician. He was born in Jakarta, precisely, in the Kemayoran area on March 5, 1939. His musical career began when he joined a band called Melody Boys in 1950. In the early 1970s, he tried to pursue Gambang Kromong music. Through his perseverance in studying Gambang Kromong’s music in the Naga Mustika group, he was able to lead him to success. The creative ideas that he developed in Gambang Kromong’s music, have increasingly been enjoyed by the wider community. Benyamin Sueb is not always alone in his music career, but is also accompanied by Ida Royani and Rita Zahara as his duet partner. His songs that are in demand in the market, including Kompor Meleduk, Tukang Garam and Nyai Dasimah. Apart from a career in music, he is also an actor, comedian, and movie director.

This album was made by GNP Music in memory of Benyamin Sueb and his legendary works. This album contains a compilation of famous songs from Benyamin Sueb such as Dipatil Ikan Sembilang, Kompor Meleduk, Ondel-ondel, and many other songs. In addition to his musical works contained on the album, there is also the story of Benyamin Sueb’s journey from childhood to the career he took during his life. Through the work and story of Benyamin Sueb’s journey, he can entertain his fans so that this album can cure their longing for their idols.
Story
Benyamin Sueb’s musical career was successful, thanks to his joining the Gambang Kromong orchestra, Naga Mustika. After joining Naga Mustika, Benyamin released several songs that became famous, such as Kompor Meleduk, Ondel-ondel, Tukang Garem, and so on. The Naga Mustika Orchestra, which is closely related to the Gambang Kromong concept, has made Benyamin modernize his musical instruments using organs, electric guitars, and basses. His involvement in the music field of Gambang Kromong has made Benyamin’s song continue to be appreciated by the wider community. Not only a career in the world of music, Benyamin is also flapping his wings in the realm of cinema. Benyamin has acted in several films, namely Si Doel Anak Betawi, Biang Kerok, Banteng Betawi, and Intan Berduri. He won the Citra trophy for the best main character. Benyamin also has an involvement in the world of stage entertainment such as electronic cinema or the famous soap opera, Si Doel Anak Sekolahan. Benyamin Sueb’s fame in the world of music in the realm of entertainment made his name continue to be remembered and immortalized to this day.
Kompor Meleduk
This song, which was composed and sung by Benyamin Sueb, tells about the daily life of the city of Jakarta, in which there are many disasters such as floods and house fires. The city of Jakarta often has problems that have existed for a long time, namely floods and house fires. The occurrence of a fire disaster because the City of Jakarta is a densely populated city where the space between the houses is extremely close, and their houses are built using combustible materials so that it is very easy for fires to occur in Jakarta. Meanwhile, the flood disaster itself is caused by the water overflow at the water gates, which causes an increase in the water volume. In the beginning, the lyrics of this song are already telling about flood disaster songs and followed by the lyrics of the house fire disaster caused by an exploding gas stove. With Benyamin Sueb’s satirical style through his songs, he criticizes the hereditary disasters that have always plagued the city of Jakarta. Not only contains many complaints, but it also provides a solution in the lyrics, namely an invitation to clean the sewers, so they are not clogged to prevent flooding. This song reflects that the Jakarta City Government can overcome flood problems, so that this can encourage people to work together to deal with floods. The lyrics of the song of Kompor Meleduk are very familiar for all people to sing, so that it can be accepted, and the message is conveyed to all listeners of the song. Everyone, especially residents of Jakarta, who listen to this song also relates to the problem of flooding that continues to occur in Jakarta.
