A week ago, there was a guest on the MMI website from a country in Latin America, Uruguay.
What made Uruguay famous of? One of them is football. This country won the World Cup in 1930 and 1950. Even in 2020 FIFA still places the Uruguay national team in the 8th rank in the world. One of his famous players, Edinson Cavani, is now strengthening MU.
How about the music? It turns out there is two type of music in Uruguay, it’s Tango and Candombe, which both have been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage from Uruguay. Especially for Tango, it is a joint proposal from 2 countries, namely Uruguay and Argentina.
I tried rummaging through the 10,000 collections of MMI to find record albums from Uruguay musicians, but we didn’t have any. There are quite a lot of albums from its neighboring countries in MMI, such as from Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
One of the Uruguay-born musicians that I found on search engines was Jorge Drexler who was born in 1964. In 1996 he made a collaborative album with Spanish musicians and moved to the country of matador. Spanish singer Rosario Flores (who is not originally from Flores) has recorded two of Jorge’s songs in one of his albums (HHW).
