Biography

Endah Laraswati is a Singer from Solo City  whose appearance on stage can not be separated from the kebaya, bun, and ukulele (small guitar). Not to mention, Ms. Endah Laras is a limp with a lilting voice. It’s delicious and it’s really enjoyable to listen to it.

Born as a resident of Solo who migrated when she was in junior high and high school, Endah Laras has a variety of ethnicities to play with. Of course, this further grew her love for traditional Javanese art.

Her work in the field of singing, derived from the artistic blood that is closely related to her family. Born in Sukoharjo, August 3, 1976 to a Javanese puppeteer art, her father, Sri Djoko Raharjo, and her mother, Sri Maryati, a dancer. So basicly, Traditional arts, especially Javanese karawitan, have been taught by their parents since childhood.

After returning from Jakarta to Solo, in 1995, Endah Laras began to fall in love with keroncong music. The positive aura of keroncong music gives her peace, tranquility, and serenity. Through Purnama Karya’s Keroncong (OK) Orchestra, Endah Laras started getting to know keroncong. Even though at OK Purnama Karya there are more elderly musicians, Endah feels given the space to practice keroncong. Javanese style as the basis of her musicality, led her to learn the original keroncong, stambul, and humorous style.

“Keroncong is heavenly music”, Said Endah Laras when asked about what she felt about keroncong music. Endah Laras, who also appeared as one of the performers at the 2017 Solo Keroncong Festival, has her own story about keroncong music and also the Indonesian keroncong maestro Waldjinah.

She was impressed by the energy in Waldjinah’s extraordinary keroncong music. Even on one occasion when Endah Laras appeared wearing a bun to sing keroncong, Waldjinah helped her fix Endah Laras’ hairpin which looked a little crooked. “Come, sis! Don’t think about your plugs, don’t think about your slime.” Waldjinah’s welcoming attitude made Endah even support her to study keroncong more at the age that she was still graduating from high school.

Since childhood, Endah has won several dancing and singing competitions. Continuously learning singing techniques, crossing boundaries without leaving her Javanese identity, has made Sruti Respati’s older sister have a place in the hearts of Indonesian art lovers, especially keroncong.

“Keroncong Gemes”, “Lelo Ledhung”, “Aja Kanda Sapa-Sapa”, “Elephant Lampung”, and “Keronconkoe” are a series of albums that she managed to produce. Collaborating with various composers, puppeteers, choreographers, and even directors from across arts and generations, makes Endah Laras’ existence even more capable. Her flying hours and abilities are undeniable as the pride of Solo’s musicians, especially kroncong music.

The album, entitled Javanese Regional Songs, sung by Endah Laraswati and Indah Andarini, in the album the Javanese keroncong genre, especially Central Java, was released in 1996 under the label Desa Studi records, there are 6 songs on side A and 6 songs also on Side B

Story

Javanese style keroncong album with title “Katut Manggung” whose singers Endah Laraswati and Indah Andarini who accompanied by the new leader Hanjarningrat keroncong orchestra is able to collaborate between vocals and music players to produce a coherent sound. And also Javanese style is a form adaptation of keroncong music into traditional Javanese music, especially gamelan. This genre can still be classified as keroncong. These musical figures include Andjar Any, Gesang, and Ki Narto Sabdo. The singer who can be called the legendary of this music genre is Waljinah. Keroncong against the tradition of gamelan music is known as the Javanese style, which is different from the style referred to here. Javanese style has special characteristics in the addition of instruments, including siter, drums (can be represented by modified drum-style cello playing), saron, and the presence of Bawa or Suluk in the form of vocal introductions without instruments to open before the complete rhythm begins. Since 1968, Javanese style music has developed into Campursari music.

VALUE

The important value of this album is that in the midst of the entry of various types of popular music from abroad, Indonesian traditional music types are starting to try to rise again. One of them has been done by Endah Laraswati and Indah Andarini through an album entitled Javanese folk songs in the keroncong genre.

Biography

Endah Laraswati Penyanyi asal Solo yang penampilannya di panggung nggak lepas dari kebaya, sanggul, dan ukulele (gitar kecil). Belum lagi mbak Endah Laras ini lemu ginuk-ginuk dengan suara yang mendayu-dayu, kepenak unine. Nikmat plus nglaras tenan ndengerinnya.

Terlahir sebagai warga Solo yang merantau ketika SMP dan SMA, membuat Endah Laras memiliki beragam etnis kawan-kawan sepermainannya. Tentu saja hal ini makin menumbuhkan kecintaannya terhadap seni tradisi Jawa.

Kiprahnya di bidang tarik suara, bermula dari darah seni yang lekat di keluarganya. Lahir di Sukoharjo, 3 Agustus 1976 dari seorang dalang, ayah, Sri Djoko Raharjo, dan ibunya, Sri Maryati seorang penari. Kesenian tradisi terutama karawitan Jawa sudah diajarkan kedua orang tuanya sejak kecil.

Sepulang dari Jakarta ke Solo, di tahun 1995, Endah Laras mulai jatuh hati dengan keroncong. Aura positif alunan musik keroncong memberinya kedamaian, ketentraman, dan ketenangan. Lewat Orkes Keroncong (OK) Purnama Karya, Endah Laras mulai mengenal keroncong.

Meski di OK Purnama Karya lebih banyak musisi yang sepuh-sepuh, Endah merasa diberi ruang untuk berlatih keroncong. Langgam Jawa sebagai basic musikalitasnya, membawanya mempelajari keroncong asli, stambul, dan langgam jenaka.

“Keroncong itu musik surgawi”, sambil tertawa renyah Endah Laras meminta untuk mengamini apa yang ia rasakan tentang musik keroncong. Endah Laras yang juga tampil sebagai salah satu pengisi acara Solo Keroncong Festival 2017 ini punya cerita tersendiri tentang musik keroncong dan juga sang maestro keroncong Waldjinah.

Ia terkesan dengan energi dalam bermusik keroncong Waldjinah yang luar biasa. Bahkan di salah satu kesempatan Endah Laras ketika tampil mengenakan sanggul untuk bernyanyi keroncong, Waldjinah membantunya membetulkan tusuk konde Endah Laras yang nampak agak miring. “Reneo, nduk! Tak benakke tusuk kondemu, tak benakke lendangmu.” Sikap welcome Waldjinah yang membuat Endah pun mendukungnya untuk lebih mempelajari keroncong di usianya yang masih lulus dari bangku SMA.

Sedari kecil, Endah telah menjuarai beberapa kompetisi menari dan menyanyi. Tak henti belajar teknik menyanyi, melintas batas tanpa meninggalkan identitas Jawa-nya, membuat kakak Sruti Respati ini mempunyai tempat di hati penikmat seni Indonesia, terutama keroncong.

“Keroncong Gemes”, “Lelo Ledhung”, “Aja Kanda Sapa-Sapa”, “Gajah Lampung”, dan “Keroncongkoe” adalah deretan album yang berhasil ia lahirkan. Berkolaborasi dengan berbagai komposer, dalang, koreografer, bahkan sutradara dari lintas seni dan generasi, membuat eksistensi Endah Laras makin mumpuni. Jam terbang dan kemampuannya tak diragukan sebagai musisi kebanggaan Solo, khususnya musik keroncong.

Sukses selalu mbak Endah Laras, semoga harapannya untuk mendidik generasi muda untuk mencintai musik keroncong, terutama di Ndalem Kaendahan, tercapai dan berjalan lancar.

Salah satunya yang sudah dilakukan oleh Endah Laraswati dan indah Andarini lewat album berjudul lagu-lagu daerah jawa yang bergenre keroncong khususnya

Dalam album tersebut sangat kental instrumen musik dawai, suling, dan vokal. Salah satu ciri khas yang dimiliki oleh Endah Laras adalah kemampuanya untuk memainkan alat musik ukulele. Selain itu, Ia juga memiliki suara khas layaknya seorang sinden.

            Keroncong langgam jawa album katut manggung yang penyanyinya Endah Laraswati dan Indah Andarini diiringi oleh orkes keroncong Hanjarningrat pipmpinan anyar ini mampu berkaloborasi antara vocal dan para pemain music sehingga menghasilkan suara yang bersaut-sautan dan juga Langgam Jawa merupakan bentuk adaptasi musik keroncong ke dalam idiom musik tradisional Jawa, khususnya gamelan. Genre ini masih dapat digolongkan sebagai keroncong. Tokoh-tokoh musik ini di antaranya Andjar Any, Gesang, dan Ki Narto Sabdo. Penyanyi yang dapat disebut legendaris dari genre musik ini adalah Waljinah. keroncong terhadap tradisi musik gamelan dikenal sebagai langgam Jawa, yang berbeda dari langgam yang dimaksud di sini. Langgam Jawa memiliki ciri khusus pada penambahan instrumen antara lain siter, kendang (bisa diwakili dengan modifikasi permainan cello ala kendang), saron, dan adanya bawa atau suluk berupa introduksi vokal tanpa instrumen untuk membuka sebelum irama dimulai secara utuh. Tahun 1968 Langgam Jawa berkembang menjadi Campursari.
