The 5 tracklists in the album have the following meanings:
1. The lucky percussion of the crested white duck:
musical instruments serve to ask for good protection in a performance.
2. Ivory night drums: Tigers are wild and amazing animals. Ivory means yellow as a symbol of tame. This idea is conveyed in the form of a musical orchestra without compromising the opportunity of generations and inevitably with a touch of tradition. This can be seen from the complexity and playing of bass, rhythm, melody, with the collaboration of additional instruments such as ceng-ceng and drums that produce loud musical sounds. soft and dynamic adapted to the character of the tiger.
3. Tabuh Patra Wijaya: shows the perseverance of the oldest man who is still able to compete even though in the era of high technology he still uses traditional tools to support his family life.
4. Suar Agung Dance: his great dance with the title “heroism” this dance is also the forerunner to the founding of the SUAR AGUNG INSTITUTION. Suar means shining. Agung means greatness. So with the great radiance of god, Dr. I Ketut Suwentra able to present this dance.
5. Tabuh Gumi Kauh: gumi means earth, Kauh means west. Combined these two words mean “Western part” by his imagination and completely accurate considering the ration. the energy of this eldest man can see the changes in time that he conveys in the form of musical creativity to tell various stories of Balinese life. Sspecially the western part of this land in its nature especially shows that it is the village of kala patra that heats the jegog instrument in many styles.
VALUE
I Ketut Suwentra is a big figure in the art world, especially the Jegog art segment. After completing his studies at ASTI (now ISI), his presence as a jegog artist became more and more solid in the arts and culture scene, he began to subscribe to many cultural performances, bringing the jegog orchestration along with the Makepung Dance which was a dance accompaniment to his creations when completing his final project at ASTI. This is the beginning of Pekak Jegog’s journey to bring Jegog’s art to world stages. One of the best collections of the Indonesian Music Museum: Gamelan Jegog cassette tape that was played during Suar Agung’s tour in Japan. The Jegog Orchestra offers the speed of bamboo vibrations that are beaten to resonate with the beating heart as well as the breath of the audience or listeners. This makes Jegog a very popular and easy-to-listen music, said the maestro in an interview with Bali Express and the claim is true. This unique art of Bumi Marpaung was staged with an unmitigated figure: Mick Jagger, vocalist of The Rolling Stones, at the celebration of the fall of the Berlin wall that separated East and West Germany in 1989. Mick Jagger who apparently fell in love with the sound vibrated by Jegog Ketut’s orchestration Suwentra decided to have a wedding in Bali and was accompanied by the rumbling of the bamboo music.
Bali is a genuine musical phenomenon to be observed and enjoyed its development. Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson theoretically frame the Balinese as schizophrenic. This condition is formed from the process of social interaction instead of a biological process (Andrew, 2013). The “schizophrenic character” referred to by Mead and Bateson can be interpreted as an expression that Bali has two faces, each of which is completely different. This dual identity, cannot but be articulated in its musical products, as according to Hermawati (2015) Ethnic music is born from dynamic interactions with various contexts.Jegog Art is a typical art of Jembrana, which is made of large bamboo. Gamelan Jegog was originally played as a time filler when farmers chased away birds in the fields and on other occasions functioned as a means of gathering community members to carry out mutual cooperation activities. After Jegog became an ensemble by Kyang Gliduh around 1926, the gamelan Jegog was played in instrumental form (Genjor version) from 1930 to 1945, then accompanied by pencak silat (Suprig version) from 1945 to 1965, and then this art was used to accompany dances (Jayus version). ) from the 1980s to the 1990s. In the next phase, jegog developed in the form of creation and went international with the driving force of the late I Ketut Suwentra, SST., under the auspices of the Suar Agung Foundation. Jegog’s latest development is in collaboration with the gamelan Gong Kebyar and functions as an accompaniment to Balinese Pop Songs. Jegog’s art was created by an artist named I Wayan Geliguh or better known as Kiyang Geliduh. He came from Banjar Sebual, Dangin Tukad Aya Village, Jembrana District, Jembrana Regency, Bali in 1912. The Jegog Dance Movement took many movements from pencak silat (Indonesia’s Martial Arts).
The word jegog comes from the largest musical instrument gong kebyar in the form of gamelan music or original Balinese Indonesian musical art, played with an instrument made of bamboo. The jegog tradition come from Jembrana, a region in West Bali.
Gamelan jegog has short scales when combined with Javanese drums, it will produce a very good sound.
