Biography

Born in Klaten on August 25, 1925 to Partiyono-Madiah couple. His real name is Soenarto, while his stage name is Ki Nartosabdo. Had time to sing with drum music. While in Semarang in 1945, he met Ki Sastrosabdo, the founder of Wayang Orang Ngesti Pandowo. Started learning the puppeteer from Ki Sastrosabdo. Soenarto made many innovative changes at WO Ngesti Pandowo. In 1948 Soenarto received an additional title “Sabdo” after his name. Since then his name has changed to Nartosabdo. He first appeared as a puppeteer at the PTIK Jakarta Building and broadcast live on April 28, 1958.

Ki Nartosabdo is also good at writing gendhing compositions. With the musical group Condong Raos, Ki Nartosabdo wrote 319 song titles.

As a form of appreciation for his services as a legendary composer and puppeteer, the Ki Nartosabdo Monument was built in Klaten. His name is also immortalized as the name of roads and parks.

Ki Nartosabdo died in Semarang, October 7, 1985. Buried at the Bergota Krakal TPU, Semarang.

About Album

Consists of 8 tapes. Each cassette is 60 minutes long. It takes 8 hours to listen to Wahyu Makuta Rama’s Wayang Kulit story. There is no written data on each tape. The Wayang Kulit Stories album of Wahyu Makuta Rama was released in 1975 when Ki Nartosabdo was 50 years old. Ki Nartosabdo’s recordings were frequently released by labels: Fajar, Dian Records, Irama Nusantara Records, Kusuma Records, Lokananta Records. Very rare recording are release by HK Records. There is no information where the address of HK Records.

Ki Nartosabdo is known as a puppeteer who carries out a number of reforms. In fact, as one puppeteer said, “Nartosabdo is too out of the box”. In fact, he mostly performs carangan stories—the result of a deep appreciation of a standard story or a new composition that comes from the grip (original story). Perhaps his critics forget that the Pustaka Raja Ranggarwasita, for example, is a carangan from the Mahabharata. The Panji Puppet, the Suluh Puppet, and the Wahyu Puppet are also carangan. And Ki Nartosabdo himself doesn’t dislike things that are all standard—even able to perform them well. For example, Babad Wanamarto, Bima Suci. Story

Wayang art has been designated by UNESCO as one of the world’s cultural heritages originating from Indonesia. Every November 7th is celebrated as World Puppet Day.

Summary of the Shadow Puppet Story of Wahyu Makuta Rama:

Prabu Suyudana sent Adipati Karna, Patih Sengkuni and the Kauravas to go to Mount Kutarunggu or Swelagiri Hermitage. The god gave an explanation that whoever has Sri Batararama’s makuta will become strong invincible. And will bring down the kings in the Land of Java.

On his way Adipati Karna went to the Hermitage of Duryapura. Anoman also was there accompanied by the giant Elephant, Wreksa, Garuda Mahambira, Naga Kuwara and Liman Situbanda. Karna said what he meant but Anoman refused, so a war broke out. Because of urgency, Karna released Wijayadanu’s arrow but Anoman caught him and brought him to Swelagiri.

The Pandavas, Arjuna, were also looking for Makutarama. He came to Mount Swelagiri and met with Kesaswidi explaining what he meant. By the Begawan it was explained that Makutarama was actually not a material thing. But it was a knowledge of character for a perfect king or a teaching called Astabrata. Begawan Kesaswidi further explained that one day his grandson named Parikesit would rule as a great king in Java. He would incarnate him. Meanwhile, Anoman was ordered to continue his meditation in Kendalisada and later in the reign of King Jaya Purusa of Kediri he would ascend to heaven.

Arjuna returned with Wijayadanu’s arrow to be handed over to Adipati Karna.

Dewi Subhadra, who was very worried about her husband’s departure, then wandered in search of Arjuna. On the way, she met Batara Narada who gave her men’s clothing. Dewi Subhadra changed the form of a man named Bambang Sintawaka. Then she went to the Kaurava lodge and was able to help fight Ajuna.

Bima and Ghatotkacha are also looking for Ajuna. On their way they were intercepted by Kumbakarna. According to Wibisana’s advice, Kumbakarna had to incarnate Bima, so a fight broke out which should have penetrated Bima’s left thigh.

The Kauravas who were assisted by Sintawaka opposed Arjuna and a war broke out. Arjuna could recognize that his enemy was his wife. Finally returned to his original form, Dewi Subhadra. The Kauravas attacked but were repelled by Ghatotkacha.

Biography

Lahir di Klaten 25 Agustus 1925 dari pasangan Partiyono-Madiah. Nama aslinya Soenarto, sedangkan nama panggung Ki Nartosabdo. Sempat ngamen dengan musik kendang. Saat di Semarang tahun 1945, bertemu Ki Sastrosabdo pendiri Wayang Orang Ngesti Pandowo. Mulai belajar dalang kepada Ki Sastrosabdo. Soenarto banyak membuat perubahan inovatif di WO Ngesti Pandowo. Tahun 1948 Soenarto mendapat gelar tambahan “Sabdo” dibelakang namanya. Sejak saat itu namanya berubah menjadi Nartosabdo.Pertama kali tampil sebagai dalang wayang kulit di Gedung PTIK Jakarta dan disiarkan langsung tanggal 28 April 1958.

Ki Nartosabdo juga piawai menulis komposisi gendhing. Bersama group karawitan Condong Raos, Ki Nartosabdo menulis 319 judul gendhing.

Sebagai bentuk penghargaan atas jasa-jasanya sebagai pengrawit dan dalang legendaris, di Klaten dibangun Monumen Ki Nartosabdo. Namanya juga diabadikan sebagai nama jalan dan taman.  

Ki Nartosabdo wafat di Semarang 7 Oktober 1985. Dimakamkan di TPU Bergota Krakal Semarang.

Wayang Pnji, Wayang Suluh, dan Wayang Wahyu adalah juga carangan. Dan Ki Nartosabdo sendiri bukannya tidak suka pada yang serba pakem—bahkan mampu mementaskannya dengan baik. Story

Kesenian wayang telah ditetapkan UNESCO sebagai salah satu warisan budaya dunia berasal dari Indonesia. Setiap tanggal  7 November  diperingati sebagai Hari Wayang Sedunia.

Ringkasan Wayang Kulit Cerita Wahyu Makuta Rama:

Prabu Suyudana mengutus Adipati Karna, Patih Sengkuni dan para Kurawa pergi ke Gunung Kutarunggu atau Pertapaan Swelagiri. Dewa memberikan penjelasan bahwa barang siapa memiliki makuta Sri Batararama akan menjadi sakti. Serta akan menurunkan raja-raja di Tanah Jawa.

Dalam perjalanannya Adipati Karna pergi ke Pertapaan Duryapura. Anoman, saudaranya Kesaswasidi bertempat di situ yang ditemani raksasa Gajah, Wreksa, Garuda Mahambira, Naga Kuwara dan Liman Situbanda. Karma mengutarakan maksudnya tetapi di tolak Anoman sehingga terjadi peperangan. Karena terdesak Karna melepaskan panah Wijayadanu tetapi dapat ditangkap Anoman dan dibawa ke Swelagiri.

Pihak Pandawa sang Arjuna juga mencari Makutarama.Ia datang di Gunung Swelagiri bertemu dengan Kesaswidi menerangkan maksudnya. Oleh sang Begawan dijelaskan bahwa Makutarama itu sebenarnya bukan barang kebendaan.Tetapi merupakan pengetahuan budi pekerti bagi raja yang sempurna atau ajaran yang disebut Astabrata. Lebih jauh Begawan Kesaswidi menjelaskan bahwa kelak cucunya yang bernama Parikesit akan berkuasa sebagai raja besar di Jawa.Ia akan menjelma kepadanya. Sedangkan Anoman diperintah untuk meneruskan bertapa di Kendalisada dan kelak pada pemerintahan Prabu Jaya Purusa dari Kediri ia akan naik surga.

Arjuna kembali dengan membawa panah Wijayadanu untuk diserahkan Adipati Karna.
Dewi Subadra yang sangat khawatir kepergian suaminya lalu mengembara mencari Arjuna. Di perjalanan bertemu Batara Narada yang memberikan busana pria.Dewi Subadra berubah ujud pria bernama Bambang Sintawaka. Kemudian ia pergi ke pesanggrahan Kurawa dan sanggup membantu melawan Ajuna.

Bima dan Gatotkaca juga mencari Ajuna. Di perjalanan mereka dihadang Kumbakarna. Menurut nasihat Wibisana, Kumbakarna harus menjelma pada Bima maka terjadi perkelahian yang seharusnya Kumbakarna merasuk pada paha kiri Bima.

Kurawa yang dibantu Sintawaka menentang Arjuna dan peperangan terjadi. Arjuna dapat mengenali musuhnya itu adalah istrinya.Akhirnya kembali ke ujud semula, Dewi Subadra. Para Kurawa menyerang tetapi dapat dihalau Gatotkaca.

Lakon ini termasuk lakon pakem yang sangat popular dan sering dipentaskan
